It's that time of year. The frost delay is currently scheduled for 9:00 AM. Call the golf shop for updates on the half hour. 650.724.0944

The golf shop renovation project is on schedule so far. New retail lighting was installed. Slatwall was affixed to the walls this week and a fresh coat of paint was added. The back office area will soon be updated to include a dressing room and improved storage.

The estimated project completion date is December 23. Provided the cabinetry is delivered and installed on time, the contractors will complete the project on time. We are very excited for a fresh, new look in the shop.

Thank you for your patience and understanding during the past two weeks. I apologize for the inconvenience due to the loud noise and amount of dust.

Stanford logo merchandise including hats, balls, beanies, gloves, clothing and more can be purchased at the driving range shop.

Golf Shop Project Underway & Frost Delays

The interior of the golf shop was gutted yesterday and the contractors are already making great progress. New electrical fixtures will be a great new added benefit. The overall improvements include better working stations for the golf staff, new dressing room, complimentary retail fixtures from Nike Golf and added retail floor space. Estimated re-opening of the shop is 12/23.

Player check-in for tee times remains in the golf shop. Temporary counter set up just inside the front door of the shop. Most of the golf shop inventory was packed up and stored for the duration of the project but many items are available at the driving range shop.

Frost delay this morning until 9:00 AM. Please check twitter reports on the Stanford Golf Course web page for updates. www.stanfordgolfcourse.com. An additional source for weather and temperature updates is www.wunderground.com.

Stanford Golf Shop Improvement Project

Hot off the presses!

On Monday, December 5th, a golf shop improvement project begins.

In consideration of the strong relationship between Stanford University Athletics and Nike Inc., a partnership in golf seemed a natural fit. Stanford Athletics and Nike Golf will partner in an effort to improve the golf shop appearance, improve merchandise selection and increase merchandise sales.

Additional benefits include improved ergonomic workstations for golf staff, private dressing room, better retail lighting and more efficient back office merchandising.

Merchandise & Holiday Shopping;
Sale prices on items remaining in the golf shop will continue through Sunday.
Merchandise at 50% off was moved to the driving range golf shop.
All shorts and pants are 25% off and have also been moved to the driving range shop.

Player check-in;
Player check-in will remain in the golf shop during the project.
A temporary set-up will be staged just inside the front door of the golf shop until the new counter is built and all electronics are reconnected at the new counter.

We will do our best to provide great service to all constituents during the renovation. We appreciate your patience and understanding.

Start date is Monday 12/5. Anticipated finish date is 12/23. Please contact me with your questions regarding the project.

We are very excited to make these improvements! A "Grand Opening" sale will be announced early in the new year.

Course and Golf Shop closed at 1:00 PM.
Friday, 11/25 - Double Open Shotgun - 7:30 & 12:30 (space available)
Saturday 11/26 - Normal Schedule (tee times available)
Sunday 11/27 - Normal Schedule (tee times available)

Turf Update;
The golf course received 1/3 inch of rain last weekend. There are still some soft spots in low and shaded areas. Please use caution while driving golf carts. Driving the carts in soft areas causes damage to the turf. Turf recovery takes more time in the winter months. Please be aware! Try to keep carts off approaches to greens and as far away from green complexes as possible. Much appreciated by all!

Women's Intercollegiate October 13-16

Come on out and enjoy the Stanford Cardinal Women compete against some of the best collegiate players in the country!

Practice rounds begin Thursday, October 13. The event is played over three days, Friday the 14th through Sunday the 16th.

More detail to follow. The golf course will be closed for the four days of the event.

Maintenance, NCGA Posting & Cross Country Track Meet

Good Morning!

Ongoing maintenance project in the creekbed between holes #7 & #8. ARB Construction will be breaking a concrete cap which protects a natural gas pipeline that runs underneath the creekbed. Pressure in the pipeline will be lowered during this process. Please use caution when passing through this area. There are several crew members in the area and heavy equipment in motion.

Tee leveling and cart path project on hole #11 began yesterday. Temporary tees are placed approximately 20 paces in front of the forward tee.

NCGA Posting monitor crashed over the weekend. A replacement is expected to arrive on Thursday or Friday this week. We hope to be back in business no later than Saturday 9/24.

Friday - 12:30 Cross Country Practice on front nine holes, back nine holes open for nine hole only rounds

Pipeline Maintenance

Good Morning!

Pipeline maintenance begins today. There is a natural gas pipeline beneath the creek located between holes #7 and #8. This project may take up to four weeks to complete. Please use caution when travelling through this area. There will be heavy equipment moving in the area and removal of some concrete. Cones will be placed in specific areas to indicate the route to be followed.

Stanford Golf Course Welcomes Casey Hall to the Team!

We are pleased to have Casey on the team. She will prove to be a great asset as we develop new programs and increase instructional opporunties. Casey begins on Wednesday, September 7th. Hello Summer Golfers!

Congratulations to President John Hennessy for making a HOLE-IN-ONE! President Hennessy made the shot on hole number 14 from 167 yards using a 4 hybrid. Way to go!

Other news and updates;

Roadwork on West Campus Drive this weekend and possibly next weekend. The roadwork will affect access to the driving range. You may access the driving range but please allow a little extra time to make it up to the golf course for your tee time.

Director's Cup and Senior Championship this weekend. There will be no back nine start on either Saturday or Sunday on the 13th or the 14th.

Two New PGA Pros & New Stanford Logo Merchandise

Please welcome Jim Miller and Terry Gingell to the professional golf staff at Stanford. Both Jim & Terry are PGA Class A Members and excellent instructors. Please stop in and introduce yourself to the newest members of our team.

Terry is offering a complimentary golf clinic tonight, 7/29 at 5:00 PM on the putting green in the Old Varsity training area on the north side of the range. Latest update!

The golf course and golf shop will be closed Mondays throughout the winter months. Players may call on Sunday regarding tee times or changes for the following week. Students, Faculty/Staff, and Alumni may call on Sundays at 6:30 am to book a Thursday tee time.

Welcome to our new General Manager, Shannon Donlon

I am pleased to announce that we have hired Shannon Sweeney Donlon as the new General Manager and Head Golf Professional for the Stanford Golf Course.

Born and raised in San Jose, California, Shannon is a PGA Class A Member serving the membership of The Olympic Club for the past four years. Prior to her post at the Club, Shannon served Poppy Hills, Poppy Ridge, and the Northern California Golf Association for six years in several roles including First Assistant Professional, Director of Sales & Marketing, and Head Golf Professional.

Shannon is currently active on the Northern California Professional Golf Association (NCPGA) Education Committee and is responsible for launching the "Teachers Teaching Teachers" (13) education forum for fellow colleagues in the Association. Shannon's competitive golf career includes 4 years of amateur competition ( '92-'95) and two years of professional competition ('96-'97) on The Player West and Futures Tours.

Prior to golf Shannon played collegiate volleyball and softball at De Anza College in Cupertino and earned a softball scholarship to Hawaii Pacific University. Shannon earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from San Jose State University in 2000, completed PGA certification 2002, attended The Player -Teacher forums 2006, 2008, 2010 and just recently completed a golf instructor training program at The Titleist Performance Institute (TPI).

Shannon is currently living in San Francisco with her husband, Paul and three stepchildren Hilary (20), Lennox (17), and Stuart (16).

Shannon’s first day with Stanford will be July 16, 2010. Please help me welcome Shannon to the Stanford family.
